Description
This is a commissioned drawing of Tazzy, a border collie/pit bull mix. I really like the perspective of the photograph, but didn't realize how difficult it would be to draw a white dog face that is mostly shadowed. I lightened his face significantly compared to the photograph. I worked really hard to maintain anatomy and the cool folds in his forehead while changing the lighting.
He is mostly graphite, with white gel pen for the eye highlights and black colored pencils for the very darkest areas.
I drew him over a few weeks, probably a good 20+ hours total. He is drawn on Strathmore Bristol, smooth, and fits into an 8" x 10" mat.
Mostly listened to talks by Michael Shermer while working on this drawing.
